I want something that conceals comfortably in a iwb holster.
I’m only interested in Glocks (I have experience shooting my neighbors’ 9mm, 40 cal, and 45.) I found that Glock feels best in my hand.
Hopefully, someone can either ease, or confirm my worries about each caliber, and help me decide on what might be best.
I was trying to decide between these Glock handguns:

Glock 19: I’ve heard that Glock specializes in the 9mm, but I’m worried about lack of stopping power.

Glock 23: I’ve heard the 40 cal is an almost perfect self defense round, but I’m worried about it’s ability to penetrate as good as a 9mm. (For me, I want superior penetration, along with good expansion).

Glock 30: From what I read, the 45 caliber offers excellent stopping power. However, I’m worried that the short barrel slows down the bullet, and I’m concerned about lack of penetration and lack of expansion.

Glock 32: I’ve heard that the 357 sig has extreme penetration, but I’m worried that it is expensive, and hard to find at local stores (especially in an emergency).

I’ve also held a Glock 29 at my nearest gunstore, but the grip is way to big for my hands (I have small hands).
I’m scheduled to take my CCW class in the beginning of next month.
I really want a caliber that penetrates between at least 15″-18″

Hi! I’m not yet in Houston’s PD academy (it is a few months away), but I’ve been told I can qualify with a shotgun. I want to accomplish this. I’ve got little to no experience with shotguns, but I got a dvd that taught me a lot about what I should be looking at/how I should load/etc: (http://www.navyseals.com/store/detail.aspx?ID=172&Name=Tactical-Shotgun-for-Self-Defense-DVD)

Anyhow I have two questions about that. #1, how should I be training? I have access to a range near my house (indoor and outdoor varieties). I have no idea what they will want me to be capable of (grouping, distance, target acquisition, tactical clearing, or otherwise).

Secondly, I’m planning on getting a Remington 870 with a pistol grip, butt-stock, ghost-ring sights. Everything else I don’t feel I’ll really need to do well in qualifications. Anyone think I should be looking at a different model/setup?

I would vote for it if it were ever offered. Don’t you think after the first public hanging for rape or murder that the crime rate would go down? Of course there would have to be laws involved for self-defense and so that the innocent people wouldn’t suffer… but say there is an armed robbery and a shooting takes place (the robber shoots the store clerk). Shouldn’t that robber be shot or hanged as an example to others: DON’T DO THIS OR ELSE?
I’m glad to see that most of you are in favor of this; just wanted to add a side note that if the person convicted of a crime just goes to prison, that money to keep them locked up comes straight out of our pockets as taxpayers! Why should we have to feed, clothe, and house these animals that kill our family and friends?

What have you done? Have you stored food, water, emergency supplies, radio, flashlights, eating utinsils, trash bags, cleansing supplies, fuel, self defense articles, identification paperwork, money, paper and pencils and whatever needed to survive for an unlimited time? They plan on disrupting our economy.

I have seen/heard many dems write/say that Obama is not against guns, but if that is true then why did/does he:
favor and endorse a ban on manufacturing, selling, and possessing handguns in Illinois?
support local gun bans?
cosponsor a bill to limit gun purchases to 1 a month?
think it’s only ok for retired police to have concealed carry licenses?
support keeping guns out of inner city areas?
support the ban on semi-automatics?
vote to prosecute those who use a gun for self-defense in their house?support a 500% increase in taxes on guns and ammo?
get endorsed by the biggest anti-hunting group (HSUS)?
get endorsed by the biggest gun ban group (Brady Campaign)?

Why has it become EXTREMELY difficult to find reloading components since he was elected?
Why has the price of ammo drastically gone up since he was elected?
Why are sporting goods stores having less and less guns, ammo, and reloading components in stock since he was elected?
All of these are happening where I live anyways.

I am a strong believer in the 2nd amendment, an avid, ethical, licensed hunter, and believe I should have the right to protect my family and property through the use of a firearm. I own several guns and have never killed a human. Why should I and other law-abiding gun owners not be allowed our right to the 2nd amendment, simply because the liberals fear guns?

St N- What kind of delusional world do you live in? If someone is stupid enough to try to kill me or my family, then you’re dang right I’m gonna shoot them! It’s called self-defense. And you have obviously forgotten that many people use their guns to hunt, which provides dinner for families such as my own and helps control wildlife populations.

Then me and my sister laughed because we knew we wasn’t ugly. So she got mad that we laughed so she walked into the store and started yelling while we was in the store. Omg I didn’t want to be all bad because I go to that store almost everyday and I didn’t want to seem crazy. So the guy turned to the five girls and said get out my store. Then she said you wear makeup that’s why you look like that.to get to the point They all took it to far and we had to use self defense. and they got what they desered. She tried to steal my phone and my tiffanys necklace and bracelet.but she threw it down. Everyone was like yall r so pretty, to be fighting. That was my first real fight. What do you think about all of this be honest.

I am referring to my self-defense weapon. I like to have ammo ready for when I use it. At the same time, I know storing ammo in the magazine too long can cause problems with the spring. I was just wondering what some people do to prevent this. Maybe someone from law enforcement can provide information/advice.

crewchief1949 :

I propose, IRTSDM, or Individuals Right To Self Defense Measure, funded by the BATF. Why not start a program nation wide that would fund firearms stores, police and individuals to get firearms in the hands of those that cant afford them but could use them. Set the ball in motion buy having individuals apply for their handgun permits(in states that still require it) which is usually cheap and that would be the only exspense to them except ammunition. Then, once an individual passes the check, the individual recieves a voucher from the BATF for the purchase of one handgun for personal defense. This voucher will be in that persons name ONLY and cannot be transferred to another individual. Once the person takes possesion of the firearm, they have the option of taking a self defense course sponsored by either a firearms instructor or local law enforcement. Once this has reached the point of the self defense course being completed, the stimulus money ends. If the individual wants a CCW then that will be covered at their exspense.
The big question would be who is eligible? I would suggest low income families who fall into the category of just ABOVE poverty level by, say, 10k a year. This is a rough estimate, of course it would need tweaking. It would also be an honor system, after all, MOST law abiding folks are honest. They would need to sign an affidavit stating they do not own a self defense firearm. Of course, ownership would still have to abide by all federal, state and local laws.

So what do you think? Is this better than spending 5 million on observing the horniness of a female mouse?
BeachBum: there are 80,000+ licensed gun stores in America, a majority of them are mom and pop. That is 80,000 businesses that could be directly impacted by these vouchers. Not only would the stimulus be helpful to dealers, but to the local law enforcement and firearms instructors accross America that would be paid for their services they provide. Law enforcement would recieve funds from not only the permit applications but also from some individuals who would use the law enforcement self defense courses.
Besides, those who are not law abiding will usually have a record that would prevent them from passing the back ground checks. See, thats the point, crime is prevelant in low income areas because those who are criminal get their guns illegaly anyways and target these areas because folks cant afford to buy a gun for defense. I believe it would help in crime prevention also. I think the good would definately out weigh the bad.
To The Machinist: I would definately have a price restriction, they couldnt just go in and buy Kimber Custom or some match grade gun. I agree it would be a restriction to something of 400 or less. Or it could be a tax deduction instead of a voucher.
I would like to add also that this one time voucher, while rather costly in the beginning, would be cheaper and more reliable than putting more law enforcement officers on the street to get to these people in a time of need in minutes when seconds count.
